How do I ensure that students meet standards in open-ended activities and projects?
If students are taking notes or writing in journals during group discussions, activities, and projects, this can help teachers identify if standards are being met.
Use assessments throughout project.
The open-ended activities should be broad enough that the standards are included.
Daily journals will show what each student is learning each day. KWL charts at the beginning and end of the unit will demonstrate learning. Projects will demonstrate learning. But I still want to give an assessment to address the standards at the end.

Have brief discussions with those individuals who appear to be off task. Group work usually has a few stragglers that do not participate as much as we would like. Review or discuss a grading rubric with these individuals to emphasize the grade aspect of the project.
